Christian but not Christlike Part 2

What did Jesus teach?

Luke 9:23, Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

Matthew 5:42-44 , 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away. 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
Matthew 19:18-19, Jesus said, “ ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Matthew 22:37-40, 37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Luke 10:27, So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”
Matthew 18:2-4,  2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:13-15,  13 Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.
Mark 9:37, Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”
John 14:21, 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
Matthew 28:18-20, 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

I believe if we are to reach this world for Christ, we must learn His Word, and follow His commands (John ). We should never be prideful or boastful (1 Tim. 3:1-7; 1 John ). We should love our neighbor, and put others needs above our own (Luke -37). We should be meek (James ; 1 Peter ). We need to engage in prayer at all times (1 Thessalonians ).
We have to have a true relationship with our Lord. Knowing “about Him” is not enough, we have to “Know Him.” Going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than standing in a garage makes you a car. If we are not genuine, the world will see right through us.
If Jesus is our Lord and Savior, and we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we will be mirror images of Jesus Christ, and people will be drawn to us. There will always be those who will reject you, just as they rejected Him, but do not cause any to stumble because of your actions.
There is a story of a young man in Alexander the Great’s army who was accused of cowardice. After the battle, he was brought before Alexander himself for judgment. Alexander asked him his name but the young man looked down and didn’t answer. Alexander told him he could either kill him, or grant him his life. Once again he asked his name. The young man hesitantly said Alexander. At that, Alexander the Great said, change your attitude, or change your name.
Is Jesus telling you to change your attitude (heart), or change your name (Christian)?
